The Salt Lake City main library is a five-story tall, triangular-shaped building designed by Moshe Safdie and Associates along with local architectural firm VCBO Architecture. A curving climbable wall weaves the site together and contains shops and food establishments as well as steps ascending to a roof garden above. The rooftop garden features trees, grasses, flowering bulbs and perennial plants. The lightweight planting media consisted of Utelite expanded shale, sand and organic compost.
