Located in Boise’s Old Penitentiary Historic District, the Idaho Botanical Center provides enriching garden experiences through educational programs, botanical collections, entertainment and community events. In 2006, the Lewis & Clark Native Plant garden officially opened commemorating the bicentennial of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Prominently featured in the garden is the green roof atop The Gathering Place structure. Utelite lightweight planting media was selected to support the approximately 1800 native plants that were chosen for their ability to survive under hot conditions with low water and maintenance requirements.
