Filter Media
Utelite Corporation is working exclusively with ES FILTER, the leader in the research and development of the applications, specifications and standards of select ceramic media in the treatment of water and wastewater. The implementation of a simple cost effective technology for a decentralized wastewater treatment infrastructure reduces the potential for catastrophic effects of a centralized treatment system failure. One area of current attention is focused on phosphorus removal in wastewater. Several attempts have been made to improve the reduction of phosphorus in wastewater by the use of engineered ecosystems - constructed wetlands. One way of improving the phosphorus reduction capacity is to use efficient filter media materials in the wetlands. With the world’s population exceeding 6 billion, fresh water resources are becoming increasingly scarce. In a research study (PII: S0273-1223(97)00058-9) conducted by the Centre for Soil and Environmental Research – Norway, Department of Engineering, Agricultural University of Norway, and the Department of Soil and Water Science, Agricultural University of Norway - Utelite lightweight expanded shale aggregates were tested alongside similar producers from: USA (3), Sweden ( 3), and Norway(5) as a possible filter media in subsurface flow constructed wetlands for removal of phosphorus. Research findings concluded that P-soption capacity of UTELITE to be the highest!
Many other applications such as urban storm water runoff, septic treatment systems, leachate collection systems and any place typical sand filtration is used are finding the benefits of this superior filtration media. Utelite is working with the team of professional from ES FILTER to develop economic, enviromentally friendly methods of treatment of water/wastewater in a natural non-chemical process.
