2007 BYU Civil Engineering Student Concrete Canoe Competition
Boulder, Colorado

Under the direction of Assistant Professor Spencer Guthrie, Brigham Young University's Civil Engineering students participate in a yearly concrete canoe competition where they design, construct, and race a concrete canoe.  To keep the concrete light one of the aggregates used in the concrete mix was UTELITE expanded shale.  UTELITE congratulates BYU for a 3rd Place overall finish under senior canoe captains Heather Burnham and Aimee Allan.

Senior Captains Heather Burnham (rear) and Ammee Allan (front) simulate their concrete canoe paddling techniques.

...great paddling technique!

Not all lightweight aggregates perform up to UTELITE standards as illustrated!  Many are sub-marine performers.

...please do not try this at home.

UTELITE congratulates BYU's 2007 Concrete Canoe Team for an overall 3rd Place finish in the ASCE -- Rocky Mountain Regional Student Conference, Boulder, Colorado.
